Antique Swiss or German Black Forest Carved Wood Bear Umbrella Stand, late 19th to early 20th century. Brienz (Switzerland) or Black Forest region (Germany.) This life-sized hall stand is hand-carved from a single massive block of lindenwood with a deep, rich dark walnut patina. The sculpture portrays a realistic, anthropomorphic rampant bear standing on its hind legs with its front paws outstretched to hold walking sticks, canes, or umbrellas. The bear features inset glass taxidermy eyes, a slightly open snarling mouth showcasing carved and painted teeth, and an intricately textured, chiseled fur coat. The bear stands atop an integrated, naturalistic rocky ground base that extends forward to house its original, removable circular metal drip pan tray to catch rainwater. Unsigned. Good antique condition overall. The primary wood sculpture is structurally stable and sound, with a deep, lustrous dark patina showing minor, age-appropriate surface rubs and tiny scuffs along the high points of the fur. Glass eyes remain firmly inset and undamaged. The original metal drip pan tray is intact but exhibits significant oxidation, paint loss, and discoloration to the interior surface due to historical water use.Measures: 37" H x 18" W x 16" D.

Excellent: Condition is well above what would be expected for a previously owned item. Never worn, or new with tags, No apparent manufacturing flaws. etc.
Very good condition: Well kept, respectfully handled with minimal wear and tear. May have a minor flaw for example a tiny glaze pop, or a few surface scuffs to the underside of a base.
