Antique Black Forest Carved Wood Trinket Box, late 19th century. This oval-form jewelry or dresser box is carved from lindenwood and finished with a dark, rich walnut stain. The hinged dome lid features an intricate, openwork pierce-carved handle formed by multi-layered botanical fern fronds and textured forest foliage. The main body of the box is decorated with an all-over stippled bark ground, flanked by two carved scroll side handles and supported by an integrated rococo-style scrolled shell base. The interior opens on a brass hinge to reveal its original, padded red silk moiré fabric lining. Unsigned. Good antique condition overall. The primary wood structure remains stable and the rear brass hinge operates smoothly. Note: There is a small, superficial chip to the wood on the front-left scroll handle edge, revealing the lighter natural wood underneath. The original red silk interior lining is completely intact with minor, age-appropriate surface fading and light fraying to the inner seams. Natural surface dust accumulation is present within the deep crevices of the openwork lid. The bottom features a green paper label likely associated with a past retail or estate inventory collection.
