Bruno Herman Groth (German/American, 1905–1991), Brutalist Abstract Figural Sculpture, dated 1968. A compelling mid-century modern freestanding sculptural work executed in welded sheet steel and mixed materials. The abstract, stylized humanoid figure features a blocky, angular upper head or visor element with raised concentric circular eyes, finished in a variegated rust patina. The central black-finished column is flanked by an extended arm structure covered with built-up gesso or plaster, heavily textured and finished in a contrasting red and black palette. The entire composition stands anchored on an integrated square steel plate base. Signed and dated on the lower right verso, "Bruno Groth '68". Very good original vintage condition. The structural steel welding points and base plates remain completely stable and secure. The flat black, rusted, and painted polychrome finishes are well-preserved, showing only minor, superficial signs of age-appropriate handling wear and light surface dust. Provenance: From the Personal Collection of legendary 20th-century art patron and museum benefactor Olga Hirshhorn (1920–2015). Acquired by the current owner at the Artis—Naples (formerly the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts) Charity Art Benefit Auction, circa 2011–2014. Measures: 16.5" H x 11" W x 9" D.

Condition

Condition Guide: We list damage, repairs, and wear that we are aware of in each listing. No mention of condition does not necessarily mean the Lot is free of issues. Please view the images as part of the description and if necessary, request a condition report. Below is a general definition of how we rate items.
Excellent: Condition is well above what would be expected for a previously owned item. Never worn, or new with tags, No apparent manufacturing flaws. etc.
Very good condition: Well kept, respectfully handled with minimal wear and tear. May have a minor flaw for example a tiny glaze pop, or a few surface scuffs to the underside of a base.
Good condition: No major issues. Expected normal minor wear for age and use.
Generally good condition: One or more items in a group lot or set may have described and/or photographed issue/s. For example: chip in dinnerware, missing rhinestone/s in costume jewelry group lot.
Fair Condition: Multiple issues but in our opinion, worth salvaging. Repairs or major issues will be detailed in the text and the worst shown in images.
Poor Condition: The lot shouldn't be there. Please notify us.
