A Monumental Black Forest Carved Wood Wildlife Mantel Clock, German, late 19th century. This exceptionally large, exhibition-scale timepiece is hand-carved from a substantial single block of lindenwood or walnut, showcasing an intricate, multi-figure forest narrative. The deeply undercut sculptural case depicts a complete deer family group traversing a rocky Alpine crag amid oak leaves and textured tree stumps: A prominent dominant stag with a full rack of antlers looking upward. A secondary buck or younger stag positioned slightly lower. A bedding doe resting at the base. A small, detailed fawn nestled closely next to the doe. All four animals feature realistic, inset glass taxidermy eyes and finely chiseled fur textures. The integrated central wood dial features individually applied white porcelain cartouches with blue Roman numerals and openwork brass hands. The reverse features a carved wood access door opening to a round brass key-wind time and strike mechanical movement with a rear bell gong. Unsigned. Good antique condition overall with an excellent, deep dark historic patina. The primary wood structure remains stable and structurally sound. Antlers and delicate ears appear intact. The case exhibits minor, scattered finish rubs to the high points and an accumulation of surface dust in the deep crevices. The timber shows scattered, localized pinholes from inactive, historical woodworm, common to antique European forestry timbers, presenting no structural concerns. The brass mechanical movement is intact and turns freely, but is missing its pendulum.

Condition

Condition Guide: We list damage, repairs, and wear that we are aware of in each listing. No mention of condition does not necessarily mean the Lot is free of issues. Please view the images as part of the description and if necessary, request a condition report. Below is a general definition of how we rate items.
Excellent: Condition is well above what would be expected for a previously owned item. Never worn, or new with tags, No apparent manufacturing flaws. etc.
Very good condition: Well kept, respectfully handled with minimal wear and tear. May have a minor flaw for example a tiny glaze pop, or a few surface scuffs to the underside of a base.
Good condition: No major issues. Expected normal minor wear for age and use.
Generally good condition: One or more items in a group lot or set may have described and/or photographed issue/s. For example: chip in dinnerware, missing rhinestone/s in costume jewelry group lot.
Fair Condition: Multiple issues but in our opinion, worth salvaging. Repairs or major issues will be detailed in the text and the worst shown in images.
