An Exceptionally Large and Highly Detailed Silver Metal Scale Model Sculpture of "Le Soleil Royal," mid-to-late 20th century. This dramatic presentation model beautifully replicates the legendary French 104-gun ship of the line. Originally launched in 1669 at Brest and designed by the celebrated engineer Laurent Hubac, the historic vessel served as the grand flagship for Admiral Tourville during the Nine Years' War.The sculpture showcases master-level metalwork, featuring multi-section billowing sails, incredibly complex and precise wire rigging, tiered gun ports housing miniature cannons, and highly detailed deck fittings. The vessel boasts an elaborately decorated stern castle and a stylized prow. The ship stands imposing at 33 inches in height and is securely mounted on its original polished rectangular wood plinth.There is a maker's mark and three numeral purity mark in an oval cartouche on the lowest portion where the ship connects to the platform. It appears to be the sterling silver mark of 925, but is unclear and could be 800. Condition: Overall very good vintage condition. The silver surfaces exhibit a beautiful, bright luster with very light, natural age-appropriate tarnish in the crevices, highlighting the structural depth of the rigging and hull. All wire rigging lines, multi-tiered masts, and billowing sails remain stable and completely intact. The rectangular wooden display plinth shows minor, superficial shelf wear along the edges, consistent with age and display.
