Armin Carl Hansen N.A. (American, 1886-1957), Marine Genre Scene, titled "Before the Wind" (alternatively known as "Near the Shore"), circa 1920. A superb oil on panel work by a central figure of the early California Impressionist movement. The painting dramatically portrays a cluster of three fishermen braced on the shifting deck of a vessel at sea, executing Hansen's signature heavy impasto brushwork, structural light-play, and moody maritime tones. Signed "Armin Hansen" in the lower right quadrant. The work is housed in a traditional 1.75-inch gold-toned frame. Art was not examined out of frame. Painting appears to be in very good original vintage condition. The paint layers remain stable with excellent structural texture, strong color fidelity, and no apparent paint loss or lifting. Not examined outside of the frame. The traditional gold-painted frame exhibits light, age-appropriate wear, scattered scuffs, and minor chips to the gesso along the front face and interior lip. Measurements: Site: 8" H x 10" W | Framed Overall: 10.5" H x 12.75" W.
